In December, Facebook introduced an exciting update: 7 call-to-action buttons for business pages.
Oh no I hear you say – not another Facebook update! But this update is actually great for pet businesses and marketers all round so keep reading and find out how to use these new buttons.
Facebook is currently rolling out a special ‘magic’ button, placed to the left of the like button on your Facebook Cover, that allows you to choose from 7 Calls-to-Actions. According to the official Facebook announcement, these buttons were designed to help “bring a business’s most important objective to the forefront of its Facebook presence.”

When will the Call-to-Action Buttons become available?
Not all pages have this option available yet, and at the time of writing I haven’t yet been able to test this feature on any of the Facebook pages that I manage. But as with most FB changes, this will roll out to all business pages over time. Facebook says the call-to-action feature will roll out in the US over the ‘next few weeks’ (starting in December 2014) and worldwide in 2015.
If you keep reading you will know exactly how to use this new feature when it becomes available to you.
Here’s what the Call-to-Action button looks like on a business page:
You can use the button to point to any page on your website – which is great news for pet businesses looking to capture leads, get more bookings or pointing customers to a special sales page.
What’s the best call to action for your pet business?
Only you can decide what call-to-action makes sense for your pet biz. As an overall rule though, I recommend that you think about your overall marketing objectives first, and make sure that the Facebook call to action button is in line with your overall goals. And of course it’s always a good idea to try a couple of different options over time to see what delivers the best results for your business.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
First decide how you want your potential customers to contact you, is it via phone or email? Then link this button to a special page on your site where customers can submit an enquiry form or where your contact details are clearly visible. Top tip: Add a time sensitive offer that pet parents will only receive if they call today, or this week. This creates a sense of urgency and hopefully more calls.
This is a great call-to-action for brick and mortar businesses like dog groomers, and dog trainers who have their own premises. Link this button to a special page on your website where all your preferred contact details, maps and directions are listed.
Link this button to a page on your website with a discount code, or offer that you’re only showing to your Facebook fans.
Use this button to grow your email list and link to your email sign up page. Top tip: offer your customers something extra for signing up, perhaps a free download of dog grooming tips or a discount code for their next visit.
This is a great opportunity to share your business story. Perhaps you’d like to use this feature to introduce your team and your services. Pet parents love getting to know the people behind the scenes – after all, they won’t leave their fur babies with anyone unless they feel they can trust you.
Make the button easy to find
Because the new call-to-action buttons are brand new, it makes sense to point them out to your Facebook followers. You can easily create a great looking Facebook cover using either Canva or Pic Monkey – using text & an arrow to call attention to your Call-to-Action button.
Can you think of any other ways to use these new call-to-action buttons for your pet biz?
