Okay so you’ve set up an Instagram account for your business – now what?
If your pet business isn’t already on Instagram, or if you have an account and need some inspiration, then now is a good time to see how other Pet Businesses use the free tool to reach their business and marketing goals.
It’s almost as if Instagram was designed for the pet industry – we all have super cute potential models available to us all day long AND our customers love seeing photos of of other pets looking cute, goofy or just having a good time.
Start by following some or all of these great Pet Biz Instagram accounts and take note of how they use the service and use them as inspiration for your own Instagram activities!
Pay special attention to what hashtags they are using and how they use Instagram to build stories around their brands, chatting with their customers and establishing themselves as reliable pet care service and product providers.
- Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers take adorable photos of their clients during the day and share the photos with their followers. Instagram is a great tool for keeping worried pet parents safe knowing their fur babies are having a great time while they’re away at work or on holiday. Using hashtags, they connect with other potential clients in their local area and everyone can see just how great they are at their jobs (the pictures speak for themselves!).
- Pet Stores use Instagram to take photos of their four legged customers trying out new products, and snuggling with staff members. They also share new window displays, and offers and discounts on Instagram.
- Veterinarians use Instagram to take photos of cuddly kittens and puppies who come in for their vaccinations, they also share photos of regulars coming in for their regular health check ups.
- Dog Trainers use Instagram to share photos and videos of their own well behaved pooches, and by sharing stories about the dogs they train.
Merrick Pet Care on Instagram
Merrick Pet Care have a really engaging and creative Instagram presence. They run cross platform (Twitter & Facebook) competitions where they ask their followers to tag photos with #DogsLoveMerrick in order to enter. As you can see they add captions to their more promotional posts, but they also mix in a wide range of fun pet photos and customers’ dogs.
Here’s an example from their Halloween campaign – even though its a promotional post, the photo looks so good that you can’t resist clicking ‘like’.
Frances the dog walker @Dogswag who is based here in San Francisco is using her Instagram account to share photos of her her pooches having fun during their walks. She takes awesome group photos, as well as individual pictures – giving a really good impression of her business. And with over 4,000 followers she is clearly very popular with pet parents!
The Polkadog Bakery – Dog Bakers on Instagram
The Polkadog Bakery is a unique treat boutique for dogs. They use their Instagram account to let customers in ‘behind the scenes’ showing their followers what it looks like when they hand roll their cod skins and making jerky.
This is brand story building at its very best – they haven’t really said a word about the quality of their treats, but no one can follow this Instagram account without realising that the Polkadog Bakery specialises in hand made dog treats of the highest quality!
Fresh Tilapia Jerky will be back in the stores tomorrow!!!! A photo posted by polkadogbakery (@polkadogbakery) on
It’s a Dog’s world SF – Dog Walker & Trainer on Instagram
Another San Francisco based dog training and walking business called ItsaDogsWorldSF is using Instagram to show just how well behaved their furbabies are. Using fun hashtags such as #thedoodlemaffia, combined with impeccably trained dogs they build a very strong brand both online as well as in real life.
Yes, I met these guys on the beach one day – and lets just say I was very impressed with how they lined up all the doodles for a photoshoot amongst all other off leash dogs!
The Rhubarb Tree – Pet Artist on Instagram
I’ve followed The Rhubarb tree for a long time on Instagram and I’m in love with their designs and illustrations. Although they only have just over 100 followers on Instagram, they do a great job of showing their customers what goes on behind the scenes when creating their pet portraits, greeting cards and more.
Groomers On the Green – Dog Groomer on Instagram
I have followed Groomers on the Green for a long time on Instagram, and I must say I love their marketing creativity. Not only did they get incredible press coverage from their invention the pooch patch, but they have also found incredible success on Social Media.
Through the use of cute photos with added captions, they let customers in behind the scenes – cute looking dog in the bath anyone? They also show some really impressive ‘before and after shots’ of their grooming customers, as well as customers’ dogs wearing bow ties and other accessories on sale in their store.
Alfie’s Blog – Dog Blogger on Instagram
Last but not least, I want to share our office dog’s Alfie’s Instagram account with you. As you might know, he ‘writes’ his own blog and he shares all his most pawsome photos on Instagram. To save time, I ‘help him’ share the same photos on Facebook and Twitter – easy peasy!
